Resonance, clarity, tone.
Experience the pure sound of tabla and the intensity of classical north Indian rhythm in an intimate concert series with the Toronto Tabla Ensemble.

This Juno-nominated band led by maestro of North Indian percussion, Ritesh Das, has released five albums that first brought the popular North Indian drum into mainstream Canadian music. The Toronto Tabla Ensemble (TTE) has flaunted the versatility of the tabla through successful cross-cultural collaborations with flamenco and taiko to rock ‘n’ roll with Jeff Martin.

Now, Ritesh Das is about to unveil a tectonic shift in the form and content of Toronto Tabla Ensemble shows. The TTE is coming back to the very basics of performance, and revealing on stage the foundations of what makes this institution tick.

With the next generation of Ensemble members, Ritesh Das has composed a range of new pieces that focus on the qualities of the instrument itself, and the intricacies of the North Indian classical system.

The intimate concerts, Das says, will almost be like a living room setting, where everyone participates by being completely engaged with the music.
